Willett Public Affairs 2026 Legislative & Budget Victories

Willett Public Affairs advanced key legislative priorities and secured critical state funding on behalf of our clients during the 2026 regular session. Below are several highlights.

Legislative Wins

• On behalf of the Town of Greenburgh, Willett passed parkland alienation legislation (S.10611/A.11533) authorizing the installation of a solar canopy at Anthony Veteran Park. The bill passed the full legislature, marking a significant milestone toward the development of a renewable energy project that supports the Town's sustainability goals while preserving public parkland. It will be sent to the governor soon.

• Willett passed complex legislation in the Assembly (S.10033/ A.10682) for the Subcontractors Trade Association that updates New York's Lien Law by closing an unintended statutory gap affecting mechanic's liens, that prejudices construction contractors. The bill strengthens protections for subcontractors and suppliers by preserving their payment rights on construction projects.

• Willett also helped stop an ill-conceived bill to increase Temporary Disability Insurance benefits (S.172/A.9571A) that would have saddled its construction clients with significant new costs. While we opposed this bill in its current form, we look forward to continuing discussions with policymakers and stakeholders to develop a proposal that is acceptable to both employees and union construction employers.

Programmatic Funding Wins

• Willett secured a total of $250,000 in line item funding for the Hudson River Museum to support interdisciplinary arts, science, and educational programming.

• Willett secured $200,000 in line item funding for the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center to expand its Letters from Anne and Martin initiative and other educational programming promoting human rights education for students throughout Westchester County.

• This is in addition to numerous other programmatic grants we secured in this year's budget for our non-profit clients.

While the regular legislative session has concluded, our advocacy continues year-round. We remain engaged with clients, legislators, and state agencies to advance policy priorities, monitor emerging issues, and prepare for the 2027 legislative session.
